Free game server address
Instead of an IP and port, players can join with an easy name you pick. It is free, and it is set on your server's card in the client area wherever free addresses are offered.
- Find Free address. In the client area, look under Connect: on your game server's card. Free address shows none yet and a Choose one button.
- Pick a name. Press Choose one, type a name and press Save. Names are 3 to 32 characters: letters a-z, numbers and dashes, not starting or ending with a dash. Some names are reserved, and each name can only belong to one server.
- Copy it. Press Copy next to the address and share it with your players. A new address can take a few minutes to work everywhere.
Minecraft: just the address
For Minecraft Java servers we also add an SRV record, which tells the game the port. Players type just the address, with no port.
Other games: address and port
Most other games (Rust, ARK, Valheim and the rest) ignore SRV records, so players need the port too. The card shows the address with the port, like yourserver.play.ironvaulthost.com:28015; share it exactly as shown.
Changing or removing it
Press Change to pick another name: the new one is set up before the old one is removed. Saving the same name again updates it to your server's current IP.
Press Remove to delete the address and free the name. Players using it can no longer connect with it. The address is also removed when the server is cancelled.
A suspended server keeps its address, but you can't change it until the server is back.
Questions
My new address doesn't work yet. Why?
New addresses usually work within a minute or two, but some networks remember the old answer for a few minutes. Wait a little, and check players use the port too unless it's Minecraft. Still broken after an hour? Open a Game server ticket.
