VPS firewall and ports
Some VPS and VDS plans have their own public IP; others share one IP with a block of ports that are yours. The server card in the client area shows which you have.
Shared IP: your port block
On a shared IP, the card shows the SSH command with its port (like ssh -p 20000 root@address) and Your ports, a range that is yours on TCP and UDP. Use the SSH command exactly as shown.
Your ports keep the same number inside your server: a program listening on one of them is reachable on that port from outside. SSH is the exception: inside your server it is still port 22.
Ports outside your block can't be reached from the internet on a shared IP. Run your services on ports inside it.
Own IP
With its own IP, every port of that IP is yours, including 22 for SSH.
The server firewall
Press Firewall on the server card to set rules for traffic coming into your server. Rules are checked from the top down.
Each rule allows or blocks TCP, UDP or ICMP (ping), on one or more ports (like 80,443 or a range like 8000:8100), from anyone or from one IP. Add a note to remember what it is for, and press Remove to delete a rule.
When no rule matches sets what happens to everything else: allow it (block only what you list), or block it (allow only what you list). SSH stays open either way.
Locked yourself out? The browser console works even when the network is blocked.
DDoS firewall
Where the card shows DDoS firewall, traffic is filtered before it reaches your server. The ports your server needs were opened for it when it was set up. You can add block, allow or rate-limit rules for your own server's ports, and see recent attacks, which are filtered automatically.
Sending email: port 25
Outbound email on port 25 is blocked on new VPS and VDS servers, to stop spam. The server card shows Port 25 (outbound email): blocked.
To ask for it to be opened, press request unblock on the card, or open a ticket with the Unblock email port 25 topic. Choose the server, say what it sends email for and from which domain, and confirm you won't send spam. We answer on the ticket.
Sending through your email provider on port 587 or 465 isn't affected by this block.
